1. Nemo Science Museum
The Nemo Science Museum is one of the sights you sail during the route. This science and technology museum is an interactive way where visitors can investigate certain natural phenomena for themselves through experimental setups. The building itself is easily recognized by its unique shape.
2. The Scheepsvaartmuseum
A little further along the route you will find the Scheepvaartmuseum, which contains the largest maritime collection. Focusing mainly on the rich maritime history of the Netherlands, the museum counts ship models, weapons, world maps and paintings showing the greatest historical naval battles.
3. City Brewery ‘het IJ’
Those who have gotten thirsty from boating will be pleased with the next stop. Brewery ‘t IJ focuses mainly on specialty beers brewed at two locations in the city. For example, draft beers are brewed on Funenkade, while bottled beers are brewed on Zeeburgerpad. You will not only learn about famous beers such as Zatte, Natte, Ijwit or Colombus , but you can also taste them!
4. The Tropenmuseum
After being rehydrated, move on to warmer regions. The Tropical Museum more specifically. This museum contains a large collection of ethnographic artifacts from tropical regions. The main emphasis is on former Dutch territories across the sea. It teaches visitors about the cultural diversity present in our world. How other cultures mourn, celebrate, decorate, pray or even fight.
5. Artis Zoo
The Artis Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands so it not only has a lot of wild animals but also some 27 monumental buildings dating back to the nineteenth century. With over 900 animal species, Artis is always worth a visit. The boat route runs along the back of the zoo, so you may be able to spot some animals.
6. Hortus Botanicus
The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is a botanical garden located in the Plantage neighborhood. The garden consists of some four thousand tropical and indigenous trees and plants. This green oasis in the middle of the city is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Also in the garden you will find the Orangery, a centuries-old national monument that today serves as the Hortus Café.
7. Zuiderkerk
The Renaissance-style Zuiderkerk is unique in Amsterdam. After all, the seventeenth-century church was built for Protestant worship services but today it is regularly rented out for gatherings.
8. Oude Schans
